Cachoeira do Ramalho
Leaving from the town of Andaraí, the trail to Cachoeira do Ramalho from below takes about 2 hours. The walk is mostly done inside the canyon of Rio Baiano, where you can spot historical remnants of mining at various points along the trail and even enjoy a swim in Poço do Fervedor (Boiling Pot). In Chapada Diamantina, the places called “poço” are wider stretches of the river where the waters are calmer, making them an ideal environment for swimming and cooling off. The beautiful waterfall is impressive with its 90-meter height and is best appreciated during rainy seasons, as it may dry up at certain times of the year.
Cachoeira da Fumaça
The spectacular Cachoeira da Fumaça is one of the most breathtaking scenes in Chapada Diamantina. With a waterfall of about 340 meters, surrounded by towering rock walls, this magical location in the heart of Vale do Capão is an unforgettable experience. Reaching the top of this waterfall, one of the largest in Brazil, is thrilling and rewarding.
Visiting Cachoeira da Fumaça can be done from above or below. The most common option is the trail to view it from above. However, don’t be fooled into thinking it’s an easy walk. With 12 km round trip, this trail is challenging, especially the initial 2 km ascent, which requires stamina and physical fitness. But the panoramic view at the end and the feeling of accomplishment are worth it.
The goal of the trail is to reach the viewpoints that offer views of the imposing waterfall. Due to the force of the fall, the water appears to turn into smoke, justifying the name “Fumaça,” which means smoke. On sunny days, you may even see rainbows over the waterfall.
Remember that the trail to see Cachoeira da Fumaça from above does not include swimming at the waterfall itself. It is common to make a stop for a refreshing dip at Riachinho, a waterfall near the trailhead.
Although the tour can be organized from Lençóis, the distance is considerable. It’s 80 km from Lençóis versus only 3 km from Vale do Capão. If possible, consider staying overnight in Vale do Capão to enjoy the tour from there.
Cachoeira do Mosquito

Cachoeira da Fumacinha – Por Cima
You’ll follow a winding trail that meanders through low vegetation under the open sky, treating your eyes to landscapes of valleys and mountains that unfold like natural artworks. Additionally, you’ll be able to contemplate the vastness of Gerais do Machanbongo, the largest expanse in the Chapada Diamantina. At the end of the trail, a breathtaking sight awaits: the majestic Fumacinha Canyon, with its impressive 300 meters in height. Although the waterfall is not visible from the top as it is on the lower trail, the upper falls present also offer a unique beauty, along with the opportunity to enjoy refreshing swims. This experience provides a panoramic perspective that takes the appreciation of the grandeur of Chapada Diamantina to new heights.
Circuito Andorinhas, with Cânion das 7 Quedas and Funis
In a single itinerary, you have the chance to explore these three enchantments. Starting with the graceful Cachoeira das Andorinhas, followed by the hike through the spectacular Cânion das Sete Quedas, and finally arriving at the relaxing Cachoeira dos Funis, where a natural hydromassage awaits.
Mirante do Pati
The trail to the Mirante do Vale do Pati crosses the high-altitude fields of the Rio Preto plains, culminating in a truly impressive view.
